Physical
Education
Physical Education is an important part of life at Ivy Bank. Students
enjoy a rich and varied programme of compulsory examination and extra
curricular activities throughout their school career. Our excellence
in this area is recognised by the award of the English Sports Council
Sportsmark. Our aim is to provide opportunities for students to develop
physically and socially and to stimulate a love of sporting activities
which they might take with them beyond school. We offer students of
all ages involvement in a wide range of activities which includes athletics,
aerobics, basketball, badminton, cricket, hockey, netball, football,
table tennis, rugby, tennis, use of multi-gym, rounders, soft ball and
dance. Accompanying these activities there is a program of fixtures
competing with other schools locally and regionally. This has done much
to enhance Ivy Bank's reputation for producing successful sports teams
and providing students with the opportunity to gain representative honours
for School, Town and County.

Music
Ivy
Bank has a rapidly developing reputation for the quality
of its music. The Music Department offers a wide choice in its extra
curricular programme and given young people the chance to be involved
in the Jazz Group, Orchestra, String Quartet, Brass Band and Choir.
Students also receive specialist instrument tuition from visiting peripatetic
staff. With recent success in several local festivals, competitions
and major awards in the Burnley Music Festival our musicians are regularly
sought for guest appearances at events in the region.
Drama
he school has developed an excellent reputation for its work in Drama.
Many students choose the subject at GCSE level and many become involved
in the annual production, which is one of the highlights of the school
calendar. Run as a join venture with their colleagues in the other Expressive
Arts area of Music and Art, the Drama staff have staged large scale
versions of a number of major musicals.
