A partnership with the business community
At Ivy Bank we aim to create more opportunities than might normally be found in a mainstream school. We have been extremely fortunate that the local business community has been so willing to support innovation and improvement in a vast number of ways. As a direct result of this generosity we have been able to enrich the curriculum and broaden the range of experiences for our students
Technology Advisory Panel
A number of Burnley's largest employers meet with us each half term to explore ways in which we can co-operate in the interests of our students. This has seen the development of improved work experience placements, Technology Days for Year Nine classes, additional funding for specific projects and a regular flow of visits both into, and out from, the school. Indeed, our students have access to a pool of expertise from within the local area that supports and enhances their studies as they prepare for examinations and look ahead to the worlds of further education and employment.
Local companies have provided additional equipment for the Technology and Science departments and made French and German-speaking employees available for conversational work in Modern languages. Ivy Bank students benefit from the insight that our partners provide in the classroom, from a programme of visits that supports the curriculum and from the sponsorship of events that take place throughout the year. The generosity of the companies that support the school has led to our GCSE Physical Education candidates participating in coaching sessions with an Olympic athlete and to the introduction of our own regular Arts Week.
