ROAD TRAFFIC STUDIES


WHAT SORT OF PERSON CAN DO THIS COURSE?
Anyone who is interested in cars, motorcycles or road safety and
is prepared to work hard can apply for this course. It is a 
G.C.S.E. course and therefore needs hard work and commitment. 
Probably the most popular part of the course is practical moped
riding which accounts for 20% of the final mark.


WHAT IS THIS COURSE ALL ABOUT? 
It is about what we all see and use every day; the road. 
You will study:- 
1) The legal documents you require to drive on the road 
2) Causes and prevention of accidents 
3) First Aid 
4) Basic Mechanics      
5) The Highway Code 


WHY SHOULD I TAKE THIS COURSE? 
Do you hope to drive when you leave school? If you do, this is
the course for you! You will be given qualified driving/riding
instruction and take a test. Department of Transport driving 
tests now involve a written examination. This subject will help 
you to prepare for it! Finally, did you know that more people of 
your age die in road accidents than from any other single cause? 


WHAT SORT OF WORK WILL I BE EXPECTED TO DO? 
1) complete all homework to the best of your ability and hand it
	in on time. 
2) contribute to class discussions and group work.
3) to produce a piece of research coursework on some aspect 
 of road safety (i.e. the problems of drinking and driving). 
4) be prepared to ride a moped within the school yard and to 
 behave impeccably whilst you are waiting your turn! 


DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT OR FACILITIES? 
No! Everything is provided by the school. 


ARE THERE ANY EXAMINATIONS?
Yes, this is a G.C.S.E. course.  You will have to:- 
1) take a practical moped riding test (20% of marks )
2) produce a piece of research on road safety  (20% of marks )
3) sit a 2 hour written exam.  (60% of marks)
