Physical Education

Physical Education is an important part of life at Ivy Bank. Students enjoy a rich and varied programme of compulsory, examination and extra-curricular activities throughout their school career. Our excellence in this area is recognised by the award of the English Sports Council Sportsmark.

Our aim is to provide opportunities for all students to develop physically and socially and to stimulate a love of sporting activities, which they might take with them beyond school.

We offer students at Key Stage 3 a wide range of activities that includes athletics, aerobics, basketball, cricket, dance, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, orienteering, rounders, rugby, softball and tennis.

At Key Stage 4 students participate in the above activities but they can also become involved in out of school activities using nearby facilities. These activities include aero bike, badminton, 5-a-side football, Future Fitness, short tennis, squash, step aerobics, swimming, table tennis and trampolining.

Accompanying these activities there is a programme of fixtures competing with other schools locally and regionally in a range of sports for all year groups. This has done much to enhance Ivy Bank's reputation for producing successful sports teams and providing students with the opportunity to gain honours for school, town and county.

A range of activities are also offered to all students in Years 7-10 through Inter-Form Competitions, in athletics, basketball, cross-country, football, hockey, netball, rounders and rugby.

Each year 50 students opt to take G.C.S.E. Physical Education where their practical talents are developed further and combined with theory work and an Analytical Investigation.

The department has a team of committed and dedicated staff who are passionate about Physical Education.
