The inspection of the school takes place between May 14 -18. Thank you to all those parents who completed the questionnaire and attended the parents' meeting. Once we have a summary of the report we will be sending a copy home with every student.

Year 11
Year 11 begin study leave on May 18th. Students should now be working their way through their own revision timetable. If anyone has worries or concerns they must let us know straight away Do remember that subject teachers are available to offer advice right up to the time of your final exams

Work on the refurbishment of the 3 old Science labs is almost complete. AImost £150,000 has been spent to provide us with absolutely first class facilities from which all students will benefit.

Zulus are Coming
A date for your diary - Tuesday July 3rd. On that date there will be the opportunity to experience "The Mighty Zulu Nation". The world famous cast of the acclaimed musical "AFRICA, AFRICA" who have performed for Nelson Mandella at state ceremonies and who welcomed the Queen to South Africa will be performing at Ivy Bank. Don't ask how we have done it - just make sure you don't miss it! Booking arrangements will be announced shortly.

With a little help of a local company Designed Web Solutions, we have been developing an exciting website for parents, teachers and students.. Currently the site is about 60% complete but well worth a look at www.ivybank.lancs.sch.uk

We have recently secured £3,000 from the Garfield Western Foundation to install a Bio Accustical Sound System into the Science Department. The CITB has given £300 towards the cost of the school Council Millennium Theatre project.

Radio Station
This year IBFM will not be on air in October. Instead we will be creating an internal radio station on a permanent basis. We have been given financial backing by LCCS, EMI, and Opus so that students can broadcast each day to the newly extended dinning room at break and lunchtime.

Manchester United
Once again the English Premier League Champions will hold a road show at Ivy Bank. This will be on 16th and 17th of June. 10 Students who have shown commitment and dedication to school sport have been given free places.

Sports Awards
Tickets will soon be on sale for this year's Sports Awards Evening which will be held in the Executive Suite at Turf Moor on Thursday June 28th.

Well done to the Year 7 and 8 boys who reached the final of their Town Cup competitions. Although both were beaten the boys have distinguished themselves this year. Good luck to the Year 10 boys who contest the final of The Keighley Cup at Turf Moor on May 8th

5 of our Year 7 girls will be attending the Bumley Netball Centre of Excellence. Congratulations to Keely Gamble, Zowie Allison, Danielle Newton, Stephanie Brown and Emily Wilson.

Year 10 Careers
Students will soon be having introductory talks from the East Lancs Careers Service. Careers interviews will begin by the end of May. Parents are asked to ensure that daughters and sons return the invitation/reply slip to Mr Burbery before the interview date.

The girls have produced excellent results this year. Year 8 and 9A are Burnley School Champions. The Year 9B team came 3rd in the 'A' competition and the Under 16's are also, officially the best side in the town. Well done to all !

The Friday morning, pre school group performed their dance in assemblies with a number of girls being selected to perform at The Expressive Arts Awards evening. Special thanks and congratulations to Claire Gidley, Emma Burrows, Louise Ormesher, Rachel Cowan and Catherine Passmore for their Arts Award performance.

Baby Think it Over!
Year 9 will soon have a chance to bring one of the babies home as part of the PSHE programme Those interested should see Mr Burbery

On November 7th students in the current Year 7 will have a chance to see 'Beauty and the Beast' at The Liverpool Empire. This is the first time the show has been on outside London and tickets are selling fast. Anyone interested should see Mr Humphrey.

Year 10 are still involved in their Lancashire Competition. Matches resume after work experience.

All teams have performed well again 9A are Bumley Champions while 11 A are runners up in their competitions Both Year 7 sides were runners up All other teams finished 3rd in their Competitions

Geography Field Trip
Parents should have received the altered location for the GCSE fieldwork on May 10th 2001. This arrangement counts for 15% of the student's final grade so attendance on the day and in lessons for the completion of the study is vital.
